When The Medway Was An Airport
The Story Of The Flying Boats

Stand on the banks of the River Medway today, you see a quiet stretch of water,
historic dockyards, and leisure craft.

But in the 1930s and 40s, this river was one of the most prestigious "runways" in the world.

This was the home of Short Brothers, the pioneers who turned the Medway
into a global hub for the golden age of aviation.

From the heart of Rochester, giant "Flying Boats" would roar down the river, lifting off to connect the British Empire—from Southampton to Sydney and everywhere in between.
